Our nomination is in recognition of the work undertaken at The Centre of Excellence at Import Services Ltd, which serves all the training needs for our operational staff. It has been in operation now for over 5 years and has evolved significantly since its conception.

It was created to further develop our investment in people and to support our clients growth and is equipped to deliver both operational and system / process training. It is lead by a team of four key members of staff (with a combined service of 51 years), all of who deliver the training and have specialist knowledge in specific areas of the business.

This hugely important department delivers a best practice, uniform approach to training across all 3 of our sites and allows people to become multi-skilled and deployed to different areas as the business requires.

In addition to the training they deliver, they also develop innovative ways of engaging with staff, a recent example of this is the introduction of an initiative called “WIGS” or Wildly Important Goals; this offers staff the opportunity to work with their teams to come up with solutions to improve practices within the warehouses.

The special guest and speaker this year will be Nick Hewer, former PR guru and advisor to Lord Alan Sugar on BBC’s popular show The Apprentice, who will also present the 2016 UKWA Awards for Excellence in the Logistics Industry.
