Import Services has been named ‘Best Retail Supply Chain Company’ by the Institute of Transport Management (ITM) in its 2011 ‘Roll of Honour’.

ITM awards are presented to innovative companies responsible for developing transport, with Import Services being recognised for its port-centric contribution to retail supply chain logistics in the UK.

Commenting on the reasons why Import Services was chosen for the ‘Best Retail Supply Chain Company 2011’, Philip Leung from ITM said:

“Import Services offers best of breed port-centric logistics services from their base in Southampton, the first UK port of call for deep sea container ships. Import Services demonstrates real understanding of the working procedures and systems requirements of retailers and their clients’ supply chains, which extends to managing product flow from source, to shelf or direct to consumer, efficiently. Client service is therefore a focus, with account management at Import Services actively engaged in their clients’ businesses.

“Furthermore, Import Services shows commitment not only to nurturing relationships with retailers and their suppliers, but also to building strategic alliances with shipping and transport companies to provide port-centric solutions which deliver real benefit.”

Client Services Director at Import Services, Mike Thomas, said: “We are delighted to be chosen by the Institute of Transport Management to receive this award in welcome recognition of more than two decades serving a broad range of majors, multiples and independent retailers including Argos, Tesco, Sainsbury’s, John Lewis, Waitrose, ASDA, Toymaster, American Golf, Clinton Cards, WH Smiths and Toys R Us”
