Inbound Logistics

Inbound logistics is a critical process for organisations importing goods (or the materials with which to manufacture goods) from overseas manufacturers to our facility, where they’re unloaded at the port and stored (potentially under bond) until ready to be transported to retailers or consumers.

Origin Handling

Where your inbound deliveries are received at our Southampton UK, or Roosendaal, Netherland facility. We also check inbound stock against shipping documentation, ensure discrepancies, shortages or damages are reported, and enter goods accurately into our inventory systems.

Warehousing

Goods are sorted, labelled and packaged for storage, on a bonded or non-bonded basis, until they’re ready to be shipped to retailers or direct to consumers.

At Delamode, we provide you with access to a single powerful system that provides you with real-time inventory information, reporting, and unparalleled visibility and control of your goods. We also enable you to move your goods between our UK and EU warehouses via a 24-hour shuttle service, to help you service multiple markets with more limited stock levels.

VAS's

VAS’s are additional services we offer beyond the storage and delivery of goods, to drive the most value from your stock. VAS’s might include: customisation, rework, packaging, repackaging, co-packaging and beyond. Learn more here.

Managing Road, Sea & Air Freight

At Delamode, we work closely with around 28 core UK hauliers, and a wider network of approximately 30 partners across the EU, offering us the flexibility to find the perfect freight forwarding solution for each shipment – covering road, sea and air freight.

However, we have access to 100’s of carriers that we can work with on an ad-hox basis, providing us with consistent availability to meet every shipping requirement (whether that be cost, transit time, availability, or a combination). We deal with shipping lines and airlines both directly, and through our established global agent network.

This carrier agonistic model and global network enables us to manage your shipment, from origin through to final delivery, via a connected solution across freight forwarding, customs, warehousing and final mile delivery. You can rely on the Delamode group’s vast capacity, and use of a broad carrier base, to deliver cost-effective shipping rates and reliable service levels.

Delamode works with LTL shipments through to full-load and dedicated movements, with the ability to spot-rate and source capacity where required.

Solving Your Freight Forwarding Challenges

We’ve optimised our freight forwarding service to solve the common challenges associated with the service.

  • Cost Control – We assess the market and provide multiple carrier options to account for volatile market availability in peak periods or quieter months.
  • Capacity & Availability – Our extensive global agent and carrier network offers us access to capacity and alternative options.
  • Delays & Disruption – With proactive management and alternative routing options we help to minimise shipping disruptions. Our in-house team also proactively manages exception reporting to try to prevent delays as much as possible.
  • Customs & Compliance – Our in-house customs expertise helps you to navigate complex import/export requirements.
  • Visibility & Communication – We offer a single, helpful point of contact, connected systems and regular update tracking from origin to final delivery.

The Delamode Approach

Beyond the breakdown of our freight forwarding service, found under the “Features” subheading, and how our service solves common challenges of FF in the section above, there’s more to say about Delamode’s approach to the service.

Whatever the product being shipped, we establish the optimum way to get each product from A to B by road, sea and air. We’re committed to bespoke, tailored solutions, and finding the perfect mix of speed and cost for each shipment, at each specific time. Due to our carrier agonistic model, covered above, we can secure shipping rates you wouldn’t find alone.

We can support you with tailored consolidation, to ensure your goods reach your retailer or consumer, even when you don’t have a large volume or groupage in road freight.

Your freight forwarding paperwork? We handle that too. No need to worry about tricky customs and import/export documentation that can often trip organisations up and hold shipments at the border, and can advise you on incoterms for shipping based on your agreed terms.

What’s more, due to our powerful systems, you’ll always know where your shipment is, and have a dedicated account manager to answer all your queries – not just a help desk.

What does a freight forwarder do?

A freight forwarder manages the movement of goods, from their facility to retailer/consumers via a network of third party agents, covering road, air and sea.

Freight forwarding management covers: route planning, identifying the optimum carrier and transport options, liaising with transport partners, arranging transport, coordinating movements, managing documentation and more.

However, an FF service is much more than just storage and transport. Ours covers inbound logistics, origin handling, bonded and non-bonded warehousing, VAS’s, and freight forwarding management.

How does a freight forwarder charge?

Freight forwarders calculate the cost of services depending on your requirements and the level of service you need.

How do I choose a freight forwarder?

We recommend being conscious of the following factors when seeking a trusted freight forwarder:

  • A carrier agnostic model – Offering you the flexibility to find the perfect solution based on cost, efficiency and timing.
  • A partner/forwarder with a large network of global agents – To support capacity and availability.
  • In-house customs team – For all your documentation, handled.
  • Systems which offer you full visibility of your goods both in storage and transit.
  • Dedicated point of contact – To answer any queries you may have.
  • A port-centric model – Beneficial to help cut time, cost and carbon from your supply chain.

At Delamode, we have access to hundreds of global agents, but have a core network of 28 UK hauliers, and a wider network of approximately 30 partners across the EU.

Our inhouse-customs team manages all your documentation, we provide you with a dedicated account manager, and give you access to a powerful system providing you with visibility and control of your goods. We have two facilities, one in Southampton UK – on the port-side and follows a port-centric model to offer you cost, time and carbon-saving benefits, and one in Roosendaal Netherlands.
